Pre-revolutionary photographs of Mikhail Bulgakov’s family—his parents, sisters, and brothers in Kyiv and at the family’s dacha in Bucha—were brought together with small memorial objects belonging to the family, donated to the museum ahead of the exhibition.
Through assemblages inspired by the collage works and installations of Sergei Parajanov, the exhibition attempted to capture the atmosphere and spirit of the Bulgakov household in the 1900s–1910s—on the eve of a revolution that would scatter the family forever.
